It's SS Day baby!!!

Dovey says it's not fair that I did not have to do an interview...so here we are. If it sucks, totally not my fault, blame her lol!!

1) Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?

I grew up in Small-town-USA, TX. I spent a LOT of time reading, so that helped with writing.

2) What are your five favorite books, and why?

First ones to come to mind are: The Count of Monte Cristo, All Harry Potter books, anything by Chanda Hahn, The Black Unicorn (Terry Brooks), and The Vorkosigan Saga (Lois McMaster Bujold).

3) What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?

It’s hard for me to write unless Bobblehead Batman is judging...I mean watching me.

4) What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?

The most surprising part is that not everyone in the world gets quite as excited by researching some random fact that I need for a book. They tend to stare blankly at me and edge uneasily away.

5) What was the hardest part of writing your book?

Not losing my mind, waiting for it to be finished.

6) Did you learn anything from writing your book and what was it?

I learned there are some scary things in my Google search history...

7)  How did you come up with the title of your book?

*sobs* It wasn’t easy. I suck at naming things!

8)  Does Prince Charming exist?

Yes. No. Maybe...probably. I’m sure you’ll find him if you search hard enough.

9)  If parents say, "Never take candy from strangers" then why do we celebrate Halloween?

...Dude! Why IS that?

10)  Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?

You’re AWESOME! Also, please don’t lynch me cause I WILL finish another book soon.

I will leave you with this hilarious joke...

Random update

So, I have a few new projects in the works, some shorts, some full-lengths. It's slow work right now, because I have quite a bit of extra junk on my plate (in my personal life), but I AM still working on them. If you would like to know more, follow my Facebook page: here .

There's not much else to report today, but I'll post some of my book links and stuff below for those of you that are interested.  <3 <3 ~SS

Tuesday Teaser

OK, I know I'm early, but I don't think I'll be able to post on Thursday. In other news, you should go like this page on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thewritestuffauthors. There may or may not be a HUGE giveaway sometime in the next week or so. I might also have a small one here on my blog and FB page (https://www.facebook.com/sallyslayerwrites). Currently I am working on a project for an anthology that'll be out sometime either this summer or early fall. If you're a fan of The Dragon's Portal, you'll want to check this one out. It's a PREQUEL that explains some of the stuff that happened long before DP1. I am also (still) working on DP2 and Deviate2 (we may have to do a "name my book" contest, because so far I'm stumped LOL). On to the teaser from DP2. This happens pretty much right where The Dragon's Portal left off.

As soon as she exited the cave, she was assaulted by a barrage of questions. At least Layla had waited until they were alone before she started in on her though. “Are you alright Maya? Who the heck was that crazy woman, and why did she…do…um…that to Aiden? Did you see that crazy explosion? What are we going to do?” Layla laced the last question with despair. Obviously her sister was concerned for Amaya’s well-being, though it was already getting tedious to keep answering the same questions about the one subject she knew she didn’t have the heart to speak of – Aiden. With a heavy sigh and just as heavy of a heart, Amaya’s eyes finally met Layla’s concerned green orbs, and the affection displayed there effectively silenced the caustic reply she had planned.

“What do you want me to say Layla, that I’m fine – better yet, that everything’s fine and it’s all sunshine and rainbows? Cause it’s not.” She sighed again. “Things may never be fine again, ok. I don’t know. As for that crazy bitch, I know exactly what will happen to her.” The words and the slightly deranged expression on Amaya’s face sent a cold chill down Layla’s spine where it settled in the pit of her stomach.

“You know it won’t bring him back, right?” Layla’s voice was quite a bit softer this time. “It’ll only tear you apart, and besides we have a world to save, don’t we?” She tried to make a joke, which only made Amaya’s dour mood worse.

“Let’s just go. Everyone else is waiting for us.” Amaya said without feeling. “And stop trying to fix me. I’m not broken, and you know the old saying ‘if it’s not broken you don’t fix it.’” But I am broken.

That's all folks! Crud. Looks like I'm having cartoon withdrawals... Hope you enjoyed the teaser, and stick around for news of the giveaways! Happy Reading Folks!!! <3

Thursday Teaser

I thought I'd try something new here. I'm gonna call it the Thursday Teaser. I will try to post a teaser at least every other Thursday, though weekly is my goal. This week I think we will do a short teaser from The Dragon's Portal (book 1).

Then the most ghastly noise she had ever heard assaulted her ears, followed by a deep rumbling tremor. “What was that?” Amaya asked in horror. Another rumbling tremor was followed by more, almost like a giant's footsteps.

Aiden was quick to answer, “A dragon, miss. He guards this area, and probably thinks we have done something wrong. Humans are not exactly supposed to loiter in this area of the woods. I think we should leave this area right now before we end up being his next meal.”

Amaya gave him a skeptical look and turned to look behind her to figure out what the noise really was. To her great surprise, she could make out a huge beast with deep sapphire blue scales that matched her clothing almost exactly. She saw leathery wings and a huge spiked tail, also.  Dragons don’t exist! Amaya thought and with that fainted.

If you would like to hear the rest of the story, you can purchase here.

Not much has been happening so far this week...oh, who am I kidding, it's been one freakin train wreck after another, but I've muddling my way through. I haven't had much of a chance to write so far, but I'm hoping to fix that tomorrow. I'll probably be working on the second Dragon Portal book.

In other news, Ariel over at Sassy Princess Reviews left an awesome review for both The Dragon's Portal and Deviate. If you're interested, here they are: Dragon Portal & Deviate.

Hope everyone has an awesome week! Happy Reading Slayers!!

Exciting news!

This has been an awesome week! I've actually got two surprises for ya today. First, The Dragon's Portal has now been formatted for paperback, so those of you who were asking about that will be pleased. The purchase link is : HERE. Secondly, my Camp Nanowrimo project has been edited and sent to my beta readers! The title is "Deviate". I'm still trying to decide how to classify it, but I can already tell you it is not really for kids lol. There's a little cussing in it (Cleo didn't really care for my censoring) and some content that might possibly be too intense (no sex scenes or anything, just maybe too violent). My recommendation would be to preview before letting your kid read it. :) I also found an awesome cover for it, too! It's not by my usual cover artist (my Juju just had a baby, and he's SO CUTE!) but I think you'll be as pleased with it as I am. (Cover reveal coming soon)

Well, that's my news. Hope y'all had a great day and Happy Reading folks!

Misbehaving Machines

I think I've already said how I was doing Camp Nanowrimo. Reworking a previous WIP that needed some help. I was writing along, updating my word count like a good girl, when I decided I needed to get off the laptop and switch to my desktop... Things were going great until I took a short break to update my word count again. I was short like 1,000 words! Apparently different word processor programs have different methods of calculating things like word counts, and it pretty much screwed my stuff up. :( So anyhow, I diligently began writing again, because let's face it that's what I do lol, and tada! Today I have made up the difference in word counts and come up ahead. (That's right...Go Sally...) I decided maybe it would be better to stick to just one or the other, and since I have Word (to go) on a flash drive I guess I'll be using that if I decide to switch back to my laptop. The first thing I need to do payday is buy Office...

Thought for the day: When making the decision to purchase a new computer, don't just assume it comes with Microsoft Office. Learned that one the hard way.

Hope everyone has a great day and Happy Reading Folks!

I solemnly swear I'm up to no good...no wait that's Harry Potter...whatever

I know I haven't been updating here like I should. I swear it's for a good cause tho!!! I've been working on getting The Dragon's Portal ready for upload! All in the same week I got the cover back, the edits back, fixed those, formatted it and did the final read thru. Now I am in the process of uploading to Smashwords and Amazon, so cross your fingers and say a little prayer for that process to speed itself along. :D I'll probably post here and on my FB page when it actually goes live, so keep your eyes peeled! Much love and Happy Reading y'all!

Gettin antsy!

Looks like my final cover for The Dragon's Portal will be complete soon! The editor is furiously editing on it as well. Things seem to be falling into place at last!

Bobblehead Batman attempted to take over my Facebook page last night when I had grounded myself from the internet to accomplish more writing. I say attempted because his poor little arms are not quite long enough to reach the keyboard...Haha!

Another thing that has been distracting lately is this new game I have become addicted to: 4 Pics 1 Word. Is anyone else hooked on it? Crazy...

Oh, and I had a major revelation that got me out of my funk/writer's block yesterday while I was washing dishes (weird, I know). The part of Book 2 that I have been stuck on for over a week...well the scenes just seemed to play right out in my mind. Tied up some nice little loose ends that were vexing me, I'll tell ya. Anyway I had a great day yesterday (got 2 more chapters completed) and am working on a great day today, too! Happy Reading Folks!

I'm not a slacker!! Well, maybe a little lol...

All right, I'll admit. I haven't worked on writing anything today. I was watching Duchess play with the puppies we got Thanksgiving weekend. Hilarious and cute! I was going to attempt to get pics or a video because it was so adorable, but every time I looked outside they stopped. lol :D
I do plan on working a little this afternoon (I was sick this weekend, and am still recooping). Other than whatever virus invaded my system this weekend, things are relatively normal (if such a thing exists lol). Have a great day, and happy reading!

This one is Cherokee, she likes the ball.
 Loki is sleeeeepy. :)
Here they both are with my oldest kiddo.
Duchess wanted to play fetch, that's her specialty.
 Loki actually posed this time.
